Index: The History of Franklin Road

Franklin Road: A Hub of Portslade Entertainment & Culture

Welcome to our "History Round Up" focusing on one of the most vibrant stretches in Portslade: Franklin Road. Over the years, this area has transformed from a cinematic destination to a broadcasting centre and a social cornerstone.

Below is a guide to the stories we have covered so far. Click the titles to step back in time:

The Rothbury House & Cinema

The grandest building on the street. Originally a stunning cinema, it later became a popular Bingo Hall before finding its third life in the world of media.

Southern Sound Radio

For many years, the airwaves of the South Coast were broadcast right from here in Portslade.

The CVA/K&T Club

Housed right next door to the left of Rothbury House, this club was a vital part of the local social fabric.

The Wider Neighbourhood

Franklin Road doesn’t sit in isolation. Explore how it connects to the rest of our town's development.
